REGIONAL and STATE DRAMA FESTIVAL (new for 2010-2011 school year)

Please note: The One-Act Play has it’s own registration form and fee.

DO NOT register as a part of the State Literary Meet.

*** DRESS CODE: No jeans or shorts (including uniform shorts)***

No participant shall wear clothing or accessories with school identification visible.


PLEASE NOTE: If a play contains a sexual reference or an off color remark so judged by the officials, the play will be disqualified. If you have a question concerning language in the play you have selected, please call the SCISA office and state, "I have a question concerning a sexual reference or off color remark in the play I have selected."

Note: A school may enter only one high school play and one middle school play. The Regional Winner and Runner-up in both MS and HS will advance to State. Third place will be the alternate.

  1. No play may be more than 30 minutes in length. when entering the Festival, a school must list the length of the play and the type, drama or humor, on the registration form. If a performance exceeds the time limit, the play team will be disqualified. However, members of the play team may receive individual awards. Plays should be of good taste and appropriate to the audience. Young children may be present at the competition. Profanity is not allowed. Each entering school assumes full responsibility for royalties and any other limitations on the play selected by the school. A play may be an original (school) production.
  2. Regional one act plays will be held prior to the State Festival. Sites will be declared and announced based upon the number of schools who enter by the registration deadline. Late registrations cannot be accepted. A REGIONAL PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE will be distributed to registered schools prior to the regional festival.

    A STATE FESTIVAL PLAY schedule will be sent out prior to the State FESTIVAL. If a school does not receive the schedule prior to the Regional or State FESTIVALS, it is the responsibility of the school to contact the SCISA office for a copy.
  3. Only the original cast participating in the region will advance to the State Festival. Substitutions must be approved by a SCISA Official.
  4. At both the regional and state plays, no special settings or flats may be used. A plain backdrop, no more than ten folding chairs, and a six foot table will be provided by the host school. All additional props brought by the participating schools must fit in a 4’ wide X 4’ long X 5’ high area. The Property Manager will inspect and approve all props prior to your competition. Schools are re-sponsible for their own costumes and make-up.
  5. At the Regional and State Festival, three judges, one official timekeeper and one Property Manager will be needed. At the State Festival, Best Actress and Best Actor from MS and HS will be awarded trophies. Honorable Mentions will be awarded certificates.
  6. Schools entering musicals shall not use a reproduction of the original sound track as part of the one act presentation.
  7. Schools may elect to enter an excerpt or abridgement of a play as their one act play presentation.
  8. Three copies of the playbill (a program, not a script) and the provided Tech Sheet must be mailed to the host school at least one week prior to the Regional and State Festivals. Each student's name and the character's name they play must be listed in the play-bill. Regional host schools for the one act plays will return the regional play bills to the SCISA office. Use only your school ID number on the playbill. DO NOT PUT THE NAME OF YOUR SCHOOL ANYWHERE ON THE PLAYBILL.
  9. At the State Festival, the plays will be conducted at a site TBA. If requested, stage diagrams and dimensions will be sent to schools participating in the State Festival.
